Job Title: Gap Year Student – Surbiton High Girls’ Preparatory School

Job Purpose: To support the PE Department as well as assist other teaching staff during timetabled lessons across the School

Reporting Line: Deputy Head - Teaching and Learning

Full-time hours, part-time weeks

Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 36 weeks of the year

Start Date: September 2023

Salary: Competitive – based on the Surbiton High School Pay Scale

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist in the teaching of Physical Education to pupils aged 4 - 11 years
  • To assist other teaching staff with the preparation and execution of all classroom activities, particularly with the younger children in Reception and KS1 classes
  • To provide administrative support to teaching staff as required
  • To undertake supervisory duties as requested
  • To contribute to the wider education of pupils through the co-curricular programme
  • To contribute to the achievement of high standards of teaching and learning in all subjects
  • To uphold and enforce School rules and to work in cooperation with colleagues to promote the high standards of behaviour and concern for others that are part of the School’s ethos
  • To promote new whole school initiatives within the School
  • To monitor pupil progress and reporting to the curriculum manager
  • To promote the use of ICT to enhance achievement and access to the curriculum
  • To attend meetings, curriculum sessions, INSET sessions and other such meetings as may be necessary for the discharge of teaching support, pastoral or other duties
  • To be fully aware of, and implement the School’s policy on Health and Safety
  • To liaise with colleagues over matters relating to children’s progress and well-being as appropriate
  • To develop and maintain good working relationships with children, staff and parents
  • To offer support at evening activities such as school productions / parent evenings, as reasonably requested by the Head
  • To assist in classroom maintenance and lesson preparation, including sorting, tidying, filing, photocopying etc

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/ 4 or above)

  • A keen interest in girls’ sport
  • Keenness to develop further as a coach in a well-resourced and supportive environment with co-operative and highly-motivated staff and pupils

  • Interest and enthusiasm to work with our youngest pupils in KS1 and Reception in a classroom environment
  • Flexibility and openness to change
